Writesonic Review: How I Use the Tool As My Content Marketing Assistant

This Writesonic review is my take on how to use this tool.

The article will walk you through how I used Writesonic to enhance content quality and used it as a content marketing assistant.

I will discuss all the main features the tool offers, tell you which ones are worth using, and also discuss why hyper-fast AI content creation can destroy your brand.

Let’s start with an overview of the platform.

Writesonic’s Overview and Who Is It for?

Writesonic is an AI-powered software that helps you with content creation processes, SEO, and building AI chatbots.

From content creation to summarization, the tool comes packed with features perfect for a content marketing team to fasten their publishing process and gain more visibility.

But here’s the catch: most marketers see AI as an opportunity to generate content and publish fast – without even reviewing the content, which is bad.

In my opinion, using AI for content generation, especially for long-form content, is a bad strategy when compared to human-written content.

Why?

That’s because AI content lacks depth, personalization, tone, statistics, and many other things.

Disclaimer: I test the content creation tool of Writesoinc later in this review just to see how it works, but I wouldn’t recommend using it.

Apart from long-form content creation, Writesonic has many features that helped me speed up my content creation process.

Let me show you how!

I Tested All Major Writesonic Tools to See How They Can Help Me with My Content Ops

I signed in to Writesonic’s free plan and tested 6 of its popular features:

  1. Chatsonic
  2. Image generator
  3. Blog writer
  4. SEO optimizer
  5. Keyword researcher
  6. Botsonic

Chatsonic is like the hero feature of Writesonic, which can do almost everything other LLM models can. The other tools inside Writesonic are just like templates that save you the hassle of writing a prompt and give you the output quickly.

Let me show you, one by one, the results I got and what I think you should and shouldn’t use the tool for.

👀 Note: In my opinion, any content generation process carried out with an AI tool is a bad way to use them. AI content marketing tools should be used as an aid in your marketing process and not as a replacement. Later in the article, I will tell you the reason why I think this way.

So let’s get started!

Feature 1. Chatsonic

Writesonic’s AI-powered Chatbot is called Chatsonic. If I talk about the interface, it’s a replica of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

I used Chatsonic for keyword research and topic ideation.

Here’s how I decided to test Chatsonic:

  1. Asked it to give me multiple keywords related to a seed keyword – sustainable fashion.
  2. Took the tool’s help to group these keywords based on their intent – informational, transactional, and commercial.
  3. Brainstormed topic ideas for some of the shortlisted keywords.

Let’s start the process:

Prompt – Persona: Act as an SEO expert in the SaaS industry and help me with keyword research and brainstorming process.

Context: I plan to start a blog in the sustainable fashion niche.

Goal: Give me 15 keywords related to the seed keyword – Sustainable fashion.

👀 Note: I quickly ran these keywords through Semrush to check if these keywords are relevant to sustainable fashion and if people are searching for them. I was satisfied with the results:

Follow-up prompt: Group the above keywords based on their search intent – commercial, informational, and transactional. Give me the answer in a table format.

For most keywords, the intent matched with Semrush’s results.

Lastly, I asked Chatsonic to give me topic ideas for each keyword with informational search intent.

Prompt: Give me 1 title idea to write a blog for each keyword with informational search intent.

Not bad.

Like ChatGPT, you can use Chatsonic for multiple use cases like creating ad or sales copies, analyzing documents, writing a poem, and more.

Feature 2. Generating Images with Chatsonic

Chatsonic being built upon the GPT-4 model can also generate images.

Prompt: Generate an image of a young man riding a horse in a green field.

Feature 3. Article & Blog Writer

I will be using Article Writer 5 to show how this feature helps you create an article using real references.

You first need to give Writesonic a topic to cover. After giving Writesonic a topic, click ‘Search Articles.’ This will give you 10 article references based on the title.

You can analyze these articles and select the ones you like and want your article to be similar to.

Next, you can:

  • Add additional information for the topic you have in mind.
  • Add keywords you want to be in the article.
  • Set brand voice.
  • Select the quality type and language.

When all of these are set, click on Generate Article, sit back and relax!

The quality of the article, to my surprise, was decent, but there were many problems with it.

  1. Long paragraphs with nothing to break the content wall. The article has no bullets or images (except a stock-featured image).
  2. No statistics to back any claim or make the article authoritative.
  3. No real-life examples to explain the topic better.
  4. Lack of expert quotes.
  5. Has technical jargon (NPL, ML) without any explanation.

And the list goes on…

To rank it in the top 5, you might have to rewrite the entire article or make significant edits before you publish it.

And that’s why it’s not a good idea to generate content with AI.

Feature 4. SEO Optimizer

According to Writesonic:

“SEO Checker and Optimizer

  • Analysis content based on various parameters.
  • Dive deep into real-time Google data to provide insights.
  • Gives content score and helps you to SEO-optimize your content in seconds.”

Time to test the tool:

Step 1. Insert your blog content on the blank right-hand page. You can also insert a title or product description for analysis. For this example, I am inserting the blog that Writesonic generated for me on Artificial Intelligence in Marketing.

Step 2. Type in your target keyword(s) on the left-hand side of the screen.

Step 3. Select the location you want to optimize content for and press the ‘Start Analysis’ button.

Writesonic gave me a content SEO report that basically had two sections:

First was a content SEO score:

The second section consists of all the keywords that I have used and my competitors are using. Each keyword is color-coded depending on its usage.

My 2 cents: The SEO checker and optimizer is a perfect example of how AI must be used in content marketing. The tool is quick and precise and can definitely help you rank higher on SERP.

Feature 5. Keywords

The keyword tool, like any other tool, shows you basic keyword details.

You simply type in the keyword you want to get information for, select the SERP location, and click the ‘Identify keywords’ button.

Above the fold, Copy AI shows you the keyword difficulty, volume, and traffic.

If you scroll down, you see all the related keywords you can also add in your content.

You can insert these keywords into the editor (a feature useful if you want to create and share an outline with your writer) or click on ‘Use Keywords’ to draft an article for all the keywords you select.

But how do these numbers (keyword difficulty and volume) compare to one of the most popular SEO keyword research tools – Ahrefs?

The numbers match exactly.

Feature 6. Botsonic

Botsonic, as the name suggests, helps you build AI chatbots that you can embed on your websites for basic customer support. This isn’t exactly a part of content marketing, so I won’t be getting into much detail, but it’s a good feature that Writesonic offers.

You can train the bot by uploading a file with data it in, giving it webpage links, or an entire sitemap.

You can customize the bot’s logo, color, name, response length, and every little detail. To make the bot even better, Botsonic lets you integrate Calendly, WhatsApp, Telegram, and more such tools.

Here’s a cool video by Writesonic that explains Botsonic’s use case:

Apart from the above tools, Writesonic has several mini-tools that can help you with content generation and marketing process:

  • Paraphrasing tool
  • Sentence expander
  • Text summarizer
  • Story generator
  • Landing page generator

And more.

Writesonic Pricing

The software comes with a free plan that lets you use almost all the features of the platform but with a few limitations. If you want premium features and eliminate limitations, you can go for its paid plans:

  • Individual: $20 per month
  • Teams: $30 per month per user
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing

Things I Liked About Writsonic

Here are a few things I loved about Writesonic:

1. Generate Decent-Quality Content

Writesonic’s AI is good at generating decent-quality content.

Although the content will require significant edits, fact-checking, and personalization, you might be able to create a good-quality article out of it.

But if you want quality content that ranks in the long run, it’s better to write it yourself or hire a content writer.

Use Writesonic for other supporting content marketing operations like creating briefs, keyword ideation, SEO analysis, etc.

2. Great Set of Features

Writesonic has several mini tools that support the content creation process rather than replacing it.

For example, the tool lets you optimize content for SEO via its SEO optimizer, get keywords related to your primary keywords, brainstorm content ideas when you’re stuck, and do much more.

The team at Writesonic has done a great job identifying the use cases for which a content marketer might need AI and building their platform upon them.

3. Has a Knowledge Base to Educate Users

For every use case of Writesonic, the website has several guides and tutorials showing every feature in action. You can look at the videos quickly, see how a feature works, and replicate the process according to your needs.

Things I Disliked About Writesonic

There’s just one major drawback I think might resist marketers from using Writesonic:

1. Confusing Interface

As soon as you sign up for Writesonic, you see a lot of features all at once. This might overwhelm users (I sure was overwhelmed). So, the dashboard of Writesonic overall needs some planning and rearrangement.

For example, on top of the dashboard, they have a search command for templates and a button that says – Browse all templates.

When you click on the button, a weird-looking interface opens where the majority of the place is occupied by Writesonic’s editor, which I don’t think is necessary.

Alternatives to Writesonic?

If you think Writesonic’s not the right fit for your business but you’re still passionate about using AI in your content operations, here are a few Writesonic alternatives for you to explore:

  • Jasper AI: One of the best copywriting tools in the market
  • ChatGPT: Can help you with content ops and image generation
  • Rytr: A great AI writing assistant

Do I Recommend Using Writesonic?

Yes, I will recommend marketers give Writesonic a try. The free trial gives you free access to the majority of its features. But remember, using it to create 100s of blogs and publishing them just to save costs or move fast isn’t a great idea.

Your site will get hit by the next Google update, and the traffic will be zeroed as quickly as a New York minute.

So, how should you use the tool? Here’s how:

  • Brainstorm keyword clusters. Start from a seed keyword, ask Writesonic for related keywords in your niche, and drill down on what it gives.
  • Generate title ideas and outlines for the topics you finalize, but remember to edit outlines thoroughly for best results.
  • Generate AI images and use them as featured images (if you have no funds to hire a designer or build it on your own on Canva).
  • Give Writesonic your article and use its SEO optimizer to improve the on-page SEO of the article by adding supporting keywords.
  • Use Botsonic to create chatbots that can answer simple and recurring customer queries.

The idea is to use Writesonic as a supporting tool for your content creation process, NOT as a replacement.
